Accelerated Reader

ACCELERATED READER

We are pleased to inform you that this year at HMS, all students will be participating in the Accelerated Reader Programme. This involves your child completing STAR reading assessments which calculates their reading age and the level of books appropriate to them. The students then take a quiz after reading their book, and go up or down a level depending on their score.

As part of this programme, all students will be regularly taking out books from the school library. As always, this means that your child is responsible for the book they have been issued. Therefore, if books are damaged or not returned to school, you will be issued a fine to replace them. To ensure our books remain interesting and appropriate for our year 8 students, we are creating a teenage book area in the library which will include books with more mature themes. Letters with permission slips have been sent home via Parentmail.

At Highfield, we are very excited about reading this year, and we hope that the Accelerated Reader Programme will further encourage your child to develop a love for reading, which will ultimately improve their academic performance. We thank you in advance for your help and support.
