Key Stage 3 Maths

Latest News!
The University of Newcastle invites Highfield students in Year 8 or below to enter their annual Maths challenge.
Entries should be submitted to Mrs Carnegie by no later than Thursday 27th February. It is not essential to have completed all questions in the challenge to be in with a chance of a prize so why not get stuck in and give it a go!
Pupils can come along to Maths and Puzzles club on Tuesday lunchtime to work on the challenges.
Maths Homework

Confidence with times tables is a fundamental skill for our pupils. At Key Stage 2, pupils are expected to recall and use multiplication and division facts for times tables up to 12 x 12. Once a pupil has secured this objective, their understanding and rapid recall will dramatically improve in many areas of mathematics throughout Key Stages 2, 3 and beyond.

Across all year groups, we are asking that pupils practise their times tables at home regularly and to support this, pupils will be receiving times tables practice as part of their weekly written homework in maths. We also recommend games such as “Hit the Button” (available as an app or online); writing out and memorising times tables or using a song or rhyme to remember. Any support you can offer with this would be greatly appreciated.
