Pride Day

23rd June 2018

Celebrating equality and diversity at HMS yesterday.

As part of our Equality and Diversity policies and practices here at Highfield, we value the individuality of every pupil and acknowledge their right to be themselves. We work hard to ensure that young people have the knowledge and understanding to develop their self-awareness and self-acceptance so that they can build their self-esteem, and self-confidence making them resilient and mature contributors to the communities they belong to. Our E-Stars are a team of Year 8’s who have undertaken training with external providers (including Mermaids) and represented the views and perspectives of young people to others inside and outside the school (such as County Councillors at Northumberland County Council).

This year, Year 8 pupils will be given the opportunity to celebrate individuality and support diversity especially for LGBTQ+, by wearing a rainbow of colours to celebrate Pride instead of their uniform on Friday 22nd June, 2018. This is optional and will not be at any cost to pupils. Our E-Stars will then lead a whole school assembly on Friday. Pupils should bring in their usual equipment for lessons throughout the day, including their PE and Games kit.
