World Book Day 2019

22nd February 2019

World Book Day 2019 takes place on Thursday 7th March and we would like to invite you to join us in helping your child to make the most of this special occasion.

The aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading. To help Get them started on their reading journey, every child receives a £1 World Book Day Book Token that can either be exchanged for one of twelve special £1 World Book Day books, or used to get £1 off any book costing £2.99 or more. The book tokens can be redeemed at most UK bookshops, or they can use it to get £1 off any book from our own book fair which begins on 18th March.

Encouraging children to read for pleasure is a key aim at Highfield. We have refurbished our library, which has become the hub of an exciting new reading scheme called Accelerated Reader. We hope to raise funds on the day to contribute to our book fund and for Book Aid which sends books around the world to children who need them.

On World Book Day the children will be taking part in activities to celebrate reading:

Year 5 A day at Hogwarts

Year 6 Michael Morpurgo-mania takes hold

Year 7 Experience the imagination of Roald Dahl

Year 8 Will you win the Highfield Hunger Games?

*All children can also dress up as their favourite book characters on the day with a voluntary contribution of £1 for the above causes.

You can join us in building your child’s enthusiasm for books well beyond World Book Day by reading together regularly and joining your local library. Spending just 10 minutes a day reading and sharing stories can make a
crucial difference to their learning and development - and is fun for all involved.
