Year 4 to Year 5 Transition

We would like to officially welcome you and your child to Highfield Middle School and to outline arrangements for this year’s transition from first school to middle school. We are looking forward to getting to know all of our new starters thoroughly and to make sure they feel confident with their new school, to share information with our feeder first schools, and to provide you as parents and carers with all of the information you need to ensure that your child has the best possible start at Highfield Middle School.

This designated section on our school website will provide all required information relating to this year’s transition. Information will be added at various intervals between now and the end of the academic year- you will be alerted when new information is available. This can be found at

If, having read the letters and seen our information videos, you still have questions or want to tell us more about your child, we are offering 2 opportunities for more interactive information sharing:

  • Between 3:30pm and 5:30pm on Friday 2nd July we will offer a live chat event, where you can message into our school Facebook page and receive an instant reply
  • For children or families where a meeting or visit to school before the summer is considered to be essential, due to SEND, health or emotional needs, we can arrange a socially distant visit outside of school hours. Please contact the school office to arrange this, places are limited due to current Covid-19 restrictions.
In addition to this, the first day of term in September will be for our new Year 5 pupils only. Hopefully this will help your children to feel calm and confident about starting their new school.
In the meantime, if you would like to get in touch with us for any reason, please email

We look forward to working with you in the future and to many happy and successful years for your child at our school.
